GOLDEN YEARS

These are the years we heard our parents and grandparents talk about. These are the years they said we should enjoy our lives. The GOLDEN YEARS were something to look forward too. I’m not sure I’ll ever tell my kids to enjoy their GOLDEN YEARS. I’m going to tell them to live now while you’re young and enjoy your YOUNGER YEARS. Nothing about the GOLDEN YEARS has impressed me.

We all hope to work, make that money, save up for retirement and then travel, live life relaxing, golfing, camping or just doing whatever it is that peaks your interest. Well, we never got to do that. We were forced into a retirement that is not by any means fun. Medically retiring in your GOLDEN YEARS makes life a little harder, especially if you have to be a caregiver.

Just when we get comfortable again and we feel like we are ahead of the whole medical field, a wrench is thrown right in the middle of the well oiled machine. When the gears are not spinning easily it really takes a toll on you. As the testing, blood work and procedures start to rule your life again it makes you question life all together.

Days filled with medicines, INR testing, doctors appointments and not feeling good enough to go anywhere is now our normal life. We like to plan things but most of the time those plans fall through. I think we have become accustomed to just staying home or riding around in the car just to get out of the house.

We came through the toughest storm of our lives and here we sit through many more storms. This boat is battered, bruised and barely holding it together. We have tried several times to sail into the sunset and enjoy this life, but then out of nowhere another storm brews up and another wave crashes over the top of us again.

Our ship is still in the harbor, our life is still on hold, we keep patching the holes and our will to stay afloat is steadfast and strong. We are determined not to sink. Just waiting for the cloud with the silver lining to shine on our vessel and clear the water to sail free and happy. This is our GOLDEN YEARS at it’s finest, it’s what we were given and here we are.
