Today will never be like yesterday, the CHANGES I’ve had to make are going to be the life I know now. It’s not always easy to adjust to changes that were forced upon you. It’s been a year and we have learned to cope with all the changes in our life and I think we have done fairly well with all issues we have to deal with.
We are learning to be with each other 24/7, we are learning patience, we are learning to set boundaries, we are learning that we are not getting any younger, we are learning that each day brings changes we don’t expect and this whole journey has taught us live each day in each moment the best we can.
Since the LVAD was placed we have set goals and dreams and I am trying my best to fulfill them. As we all know, life is too short and if we build a BBQ area that my husband has always dream of first before getting a new roof, than so be it. If I spend money on a soft top for our Jeep, know that it’s because it’s something we’ve wanted but didn’t really have to have, but the want was fulfilled. If we drop everything and travel somewhere it’s not because we need too, it’s because we want too and that want is now going to be fulfilled. Seems a bit selfish to want things that aren’t a necessity but to see the JOY it brings if just for a moment, it makes it all worth it.
We have done so much together the past year because of the LVAD that it’s brought happiness to my heart. My husband finally got to go camping to my Happy Place, we drove our Jeep on the Sand Dunes for the first time, we went on a charter boat together with our first born grandchild, we camped with our good friends for a week, we took pictures on the beach with our kids and grandkids, we made memories that will last forever and we did all of this because of the CHANGES to our life.
Some may see the LVAD as a burden but I see it as a device that saved my husband’s life and the LVAD has helped us do the things we NEVER would of done before. So I’m thankful for the CHANGES life has given us. Although I have changed and I am different because of it, my heart is happy. Change, accept, learn, want, do and most important LIVE. You only have one life and it’s yours, make the most of it and do what makes you HAPPY.
I’ve struggled in the past with my happiness. These CHANGES at first took the happiness from my world. Now, I’ve learned that you create your own happiness and if you are not happy make the changes you need to bring JOY to your life. The CHANGES you see are the changes I needed to do to be HAPPY. So if I do something you don’t think is necessary please know that it’s okay and I’m only doing it to be happy in the moment, because moments will be gone before we know it and then it will be too late. Enjoy life, I know I am.
