Heartbeat

While Joe was in the hospital waiting for the decision on his LVAD he was getting a lot of tests done. One test he got a lot of was EKG’s. After the last EKG before the LVAD I asked the tech for part of his strip with the HEARTBEAT. Then after the LVAD was placed I also took part of a strip. Guess it was my way of keeping his heartbeat before and after.

Today I was reading a post from an LVAD recipient and she bought a recordable heart that you place in a teddy bear or stuff animal and she recorded her heartbeat before her LVAD was put in. She wrote that it was a way to keep the sound of her own heart forever, because after she gets her transplant her heartbeat will not be her very own anymore. She wrote that she always thinks of the weird things. Well, I don’t think this is weird at all. In fact I feel it’s so precious and an amazing thing to do.

Then as I sat and thought more about it, I think I’m going to buy two of the recorders. I will record Joe’s heartbeat now and then I will record the new heartbeat when he gets his transplant for the donor family and place it in a teddy bear for them to keep forever. Call me sentimental but if it were my loved one I would want to have one to listen to everyday.

It’s funny how the little things in life can make such an impact on you while you are going through medical issues. Who would of thought that a HEARTBEAT would change the way you think, it’s something we don’t really think about on a daily basis until something like this happens. Enjoy your HEARTBEATS today, for tomorrow is never promised.
