This is a conversation I was having today with Joe about looking from your inside out. As the photos show his decline in health and the changes he has went through, he has become so self conscious about the way he looks. He absolutely hates the way he has changed physically. He says if he’s not looking in a mirror or at himself in anyway, somehow he feels he hasn’t changed, but as soon as he looks in a the mirror it makes him upset to see his outside.
I’ve noticed the changes in him but I try not to show him that it also bothers me. I watched his appearance change over the last 8 months and it really does get upsetting to see him go from big and strong to frail and weak. His face and eyes are sunk in, his body is very thin, you can see all of his bones especially his ribs and spine. His legs and arms are also very thin. His hair has become course. I know one day he will get back to his old self on the outside, I’m just thankful he still feels the same on the inside.
If you ever see someone looking their worst, just remember that they see themselves from the INSIDE/OUT. So maybe we can help by seeing them from the OUTSIDE/IN. Remember how they were before and know that they really haven’t changed on the inside, they are still there struggling with the outside. Love them no matter what.
